1. Divine Appointments

February 25, 2008 by Paul Chappell

This past Wednesday afternoon, I received an unexpected visit from a dear Korean family. Mr. Kim had just finished teaching a one-year course at Cornell University. Now, as his family began to travel back to Seoul, their last stop was Lancaster Baptist Church.

As I met with Mr. Kim and his family, they told me of how they have watched our ministry from afar and couldn’t think of visiting the United States without visiting our campus.

Having spent my teen years on the mission field of Korea, I have a special love for Korean people, their culture, and of course, their food!

A few minutes into our meeting, the conversation turned to spiritual matters. Mr. Kim began to tell me of his concern for their oldest daughter who was also sitting in my office. He said that after spending a year in the states, the Western Culture had made a negative impact on her. He continued to say how that he had seen no evidence of spiritual fruit in her life.

As I turned to his daughter Hanbee, she told me that she could not remember a time when she had truly accepted Christ as her Saviour. In the next few moments, I was able to open the Bible and lead Hanbee to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!

Praise God that His Word never returns void! This was undoubtedly a divine appointment from God. May we each be yielded vessels, ready to share the good news of the Gospel of Christ.

  2. Dinner Series

February 18, 2008 by Paul Chappell

dinner-seriesLast week Terrie and I had the joy of spending several nights at a series of dinners with our church family. At these dinners we enjoyed a great meal, a time of fellowship, and the opportunity to share an update with our church family regarding campus development here at Lancaster Baptist Church and West Coast Baptist College.

We stand amazed at what God has done and we are moving forward, by faith, to complete current projects and begin other needed projects on this campus. We have often said, “Buildings don’t change lives, but what happens in them does.” What a thrill to see peoples’ lives being changed for eternity in this place!

There is something exciting and humbling about seeing a group of people united by the Holy Spirit and determined to move forward for the Lord. It is my prayer that God will continue to use His people here to accomplish much for His honor and glory.

  3. The Couples Retreat

February 13, 2008 by Paul Chappell

Terrie and I enjoyed the opportunity to join several hundred couples at the Ventura Beach Marriott this past weekend. Our guest speakers this year were Bro. John Wilkerson and Bro. John Bishop. Both men brought great wisdom and biblical counsel during each of their sessions.

Bro. John Bishop is a man who has come through the an incredible trial. Nearly twelve years ago, he was stricken with spinal meningitis. This near-death experience left him without memory from that point on.

From that time, his wife began to minister to him in an amazing, and biblical way. She literally had to teach him how to speak, read, and write all over again.

Bro. Bishop’s medical difficulties are still very evident. About six months ago, due to severe migraine headaches, Bro. Bishop lost his eyesight.

Yet through every trial, Bro. Bishop preaches the goodness of God. I’m thankful for his friendship and amazing testimony.

Please to continue to pray for him and his wife. Pray that God will restore his sight and lessen the frequency of his migraine headaches.

  4. Super Tuesday

February 8, 2008 by Paul Chappell

ivotedstickerThis past Tuesday, for many states including California, polling places were opened for the Presidential primary elections.  I hope that each time you have the opportunity to vote, you’ll exercise your right and do so.

I still believe that America is the greatest country on earth.  Each time I cast my vote, I can’t help but think of nations I have visited where there was no such freedom.  God has truly blessed the United States.

Sadly, America has steadily drifted away from the founding Biblical principles that have made her so great.  As the candidates look to reform, propositions, and political parties to offer change and hope, we must realize that our nation’s spiritual needs are much deeper than her economic and political needs. So while candidates look to new political ideas for change, we must look to Jesus.

This upcoming year, as you consider the candidates and their records, remember to consider Christ.

“For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” ~ Hebrews 12:3

  5. 2008 Winter Revival

February 3, 2008 by Paul Chappell

winter-revival-dr-goetschThis year’s revival was preceded by more prayer and fasting than any other revival we have had. It was evident that the Spirit of God was doing a great work in our midst. Each service was centered on the person of Jesus Christ, and each night we considered Him and His purpose for each of us.

In the last service of this year’s revival meeting, Dr. Goetsch brought a message on the Omnipotence of Christ. He preached from Jeremiah 32:17-22 where we can see the power of God in four different ways.
