John Newton's Garden House

John Newton 1725–1807
Olney, England

Before conversion, Newton commanded a slave ship. Today, he is best known for his song "Amazing Grace." In 1767 the poet William Cowper settled at Olney, and he and Newton became friends. Together they collaborated several editions of Olney Hymns.

This is the garden where it is believed that John Newton wrote "Amazing Grace."
