The purpose of The Pastor’s Perspective is to offer encouraging and informative helps to friends and fellow servants in the ministry, in the spirit of Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearer.”
In these days of spiritual warfare and unprecedented challenges for the people of God, it is my prayer that God’s people may be edified or built up in their Christian faith because of a moment spent at this site.
Dr. Paul Chappell, pastor of the Lancaster Baptist Church, Lancaster, California, was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He received his early schooling in Christian schools in Northern California and attended high school in Seoul, South Korea.
Sensing God’s call to ministry, Pastor Paul Chappell enrolled at the Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Theology in 1983. While attending college, he founded and pastored the Seaside Baptist Church near Indio, California. He received a Master of Arts degree from the Baptist Christian University in Shreveport, Louisiana, and was later honored with a Doctor of Divinity Degree from Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1995.
Pastor Paul Chappell was called to Lancaster Baptist in 1986 by twelve members. The church was in foreclosure and could offer no pastoral salary; however, over the past twenty-four years God has blessed, and the congregation has grown from an average attendance of twenty to become one of the largest Baptist churches in the country. Today, the church occupies seventy-eight acres of land and has built several multi-million dollar buildings. The church annually gives nearly one million dollars to missionaries worldwide.
In 1995, under Pastor Paul Chappell’s leadership the church began the West Coast Baptist College. West Coast is training students from nearly all 50 states and 17 foreign countries, who will serve in local churches around the world. Other ministries include the Lancaster Baptist School, Striving Together Publications, a city-wide Bus Ministry, Spanish department, and the “Daily in the Word” radio & media ministry. “Daily in the Word” is heard on over eighty stations across America and in some foreign countries.
Dr. Paul Chappell has been married to the former Terrie Bianco of San Jose, California, for 28 years, and they have two daughters and two sons. His three married children are serving in full-time Christian ministry, and his youngest son, Matthew, is preparing for ministry at West Coast Baptist College.
Dr. Paul Chappell is the author of eleven books: A Heart for God, To Seek and To Save, Enter His Presence, Guided by Grace, The Right Path, Order in the Church, Grace for Godly Living, A Firm Foundation, Acts: The Church Alive, Abiding in Christ, and his most recent, The Spiritual Leader. He is a frequent speaker in Bible conferences throughout the United States and around the world.

Had the opportunity to attend the Leadership Conference this year – it was absolutley awesome ! Hope to be able to attend again. Thank you Dr. Chappell for making it possible – you & LBC are great !

Pastor Chappell,
My brother gave me “The Spiritual Leader” for Christmas this year. I have greatly enjoyed it! God has used it in many ways already. I am a young pastor and this kind of book is so helpful. I met you at the Sword Conference this past year and slipped a note in your pocket asking you to pray for my brother. Thank you for serving our Lord. You are a blessing.

Pastor Chappel,
I am a US Marine stationed in Japan. I receive your devotions via email and subscribe to your podcasts.
Each Sunday morning while we are aboard ship we huddle around my laptop or iPod to listen to that “good Baptist and Biblical preaching” from your pulpit. I just want to say thank you for the many tools you use for ministry. The teaching and preaching of LBC helps me (and other military men) in my / our daily walk with the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen Pastor! Amen!

Pastor Chappell,
I recently ordered “The Spiritual Leader” at a time in my ministry when things were very discouraging. After reading most of your book (I’m still working on it) I noticed many areas of my life and ministry that were lacking. Starting March 18th, I will start to use many of the points found in your book. Please pray for me and the church as we change our way of doing things. Thank you so much for your heart for souls and pastors.

I just finished reading you book “The Spiritual Leader” what a great read,
thank you for sharing good biblical truths and insights that the Lord has taught you through the years. I only wish I had learned some of these truths thirty years ago. Also thank you for Daily in the Word, which is a real blessing to me.

Dear Bro. Chappell,
I have been forwarding your daily devotionals to my uncle in Arizona – he is not saved but has been thoroughly enjoying your devotions. We had not been in contact for many years and really just recently reconnected. I would ask your prayers for his salvation. Again, thank you for your devotionals – they are GREAT!
Marge
P.S. I understand you went to school in CA with our son-in-law, Keith Walker. His parents are Ken & Barbara Walker, former missionaries to Korea. Keith married our oldest daughter, Jennifer. They have 3 children: Josh-20; Justin-17 & Jessica-16 on May 20.

Thank you for regularly sending to us and our missionaries a bundle of \Baptist Voice magazines\. They are of great help and encouragement especially when our church building was burnt down by fire last March 12. We lost then the entire church equipment and property, the parsonage, and the church/pastor’s library of more than 1,000 books used in the Bible school. We would appreciate your diligent prayers as we rebuild. i heard you preached maybe 5 years ago at Ed Laurena’ church then.
Thanks again for strengthening us. Amen!

Hello Pastor Chappell,
I just finished listening to a Spiritual Leadership Lesson of yours on the subject of Developing a Weekly Schedule. I want to say that I admire your schedule and your discipline in following it. I, as well, am a man of schedule and discipline; however, I am considering the ministry of Church Planting and I am curious. In the early days of LBC, what differences in your schedule then and now would you highlight in an effort to give some good advice to someone in an earlier stage in their ministry (i.e. smaller Church/Church Plant)? Thanks and I realize you are very busy so if you never get to this I totally understand. Thank you for your example. You are in my families’ prayers.
Respectfully In Christ,

Dear Pastor Paul,
Greetings in Christ’s Most precious name!
First and foremost I’am Rev. Alexander M. Ocampo the pastor of Zion Hill Bible Baptist Church Inc. Cuenca, Batangas Philippines. I started this church 1994 when I was a graduating student of Baptist Heritage Bible College in San Pedro Laguna under Dr. Ed Laurena. As of now the church is growing and continuing by the grace of God. I have the desire to grow and to be more effective in the ministry.
In line with this letter I would like to inform you that I’m interested to attend your Spiritual Leadership Conference on July 12 – 15, 2009. If God will allow me, I would like also to avail your dormitory accomodations.
Dare to be different for Christ’s sake!
Brother Alexander M. Ocampo

Thank you so much for preaching that message last night on longsuffering. It seems as if my husband and I have to be reminded weekly of these things. And as sure as you stood up and preached about longsuffering, you probably already have had many chances to put it into use today! We are praying for you. Thank you for letting God use you to bring many, many hearts back to the foot of the cross.

Dr. Chappell,
I had the blessing, along with my pastor, Paul Perkins, and our Christian school principal, William Brooks, of attending the Spiritual Leadership Conference last week. It was one of the very best conferences I’ve ever been a part of. We are already implementing some of the things we saw and learned here at our home church. May God continue to bless your ministry for His Glory.
In Christ,
Paul Miller

Just wanted to say thanks for the daily devotionals via email. Today’s really was right on target. My husband recently lost his job so we are going through that and all that involves. We are blessed by God on a daily basis and are looking forward to the plans He has for us. Our daughter, Lauren, is a freshman at WCBC. She is learning so much and growing in the Lord.
Thanks again.

Dear Pastor Chappell,
Thanks for the recent Thanksgiving newsletter. All the letters, postings, the Baptist Voice have been wonderful. My husband and I really appreciate all that you and the leaders of LBC do. The last letter with the See’s candies was a nice treat for both me and my kids. Our prayers are with you and your family. We are glad that the recent trials regarding your wife and your son are going well now.
God bless you!
