In these days of unprecedented challenges for spiritual leaders and the people of God, my goal is that this blog would offer encouraging and informative helps to fellow servants in the ministry.

In 1986, the Lord brought my wife, Terrie, and me to Lancaster Baptist Church in Lancaster, California, and I have been blessed to serve as the senior pastor here for these past thirty-one years. God has been gracious to our church, and I am privileged to pastor the greatest church family in the world.

Additionally, I am the president of West Coast Baptist College where our mission is “Training Laborers for His Harvest.” The Lord has allowed us to see over two thousand graduates serving today on harvest fields around the world.

Terrie (who also writes a blog) and I have been married for thirty-six years, and we have four married children and nine grandchildren. It is our joy to see all four of our children serving the Lord with their spouses in Christian ministry and raising their children for the Lord.

The Lord has given me a passion for the work of the ministry as well as for serving pastors and other spiritual leaders. I’ve attempted to do this through the years by hosting an annual Spiritual Leadership Conference, the Spiritual Leadership Podcast, and by writing. My books include The Spiritual Leader, Grace for Godly Living, In Desert Places, The Road Ahead, and—my most recent book—Making Home Work.

I usually write new posts for paulchappell.com two to three times per week. I write about Christian living, spiritual leadership, and biblical ministry philosophy. Every two to three weeks, I post a Growth Points video.

  4. Pastor Chappell,

My brother gave me “The Spiritual Leader” for Christmas this year. I have greatly enjoyed it! God has used it in many ways already. I am a young pastor and this kind of book is so helpful. I met you at the Sword Conference this past year and slipped a note in your pocket asking you to pray for my brother. Thank you for serving our Lord. You are a blessing.

  8. Pastor Chappell,

I recently ordered “The Spiritual Leader” at a time in my ministry when things were very discouraging. After reading most of your book (I’m still working on it) I noticed many areas of my life and ministry that were lacking. Starting March 18th, I will start to use many of the points found in your book. Please pray for me and the church as we change our way of doing things. Thank you so much for your heart for souls and pastors.

  9. I just finished reading you book “The Spiritual Leader” what a great read,
thank you for sharing good biblical truths and insights that the Lord has taught you through the years. I only wish I had learned some of these truths thirty years ago. Also thank you for Daily in the Word, which is a real blessing to me.

  10. Dear Bro. Chappell,

I have been forwarding your daily devotionals to my uncle in Arizona – he is not saved but has been thoroughly enjoying your devotions. We had not been in contact for many years and really just recently reconnected. I would ask your prayers for his salvation. Again, thank you for your devotionals – they are GREAT!

P.S. I understand you went to school in CA with our son-in-law, Keith Walker. His parents are Ken & Barbara Walker, former missionaries to Korea. Keith married our oldest daughter, Jennifer. They have 3 children: Josh-20; Justin-17 & Jessica-16 on May 20.

  12. Thank you for regularly sending to us and our missionaries a bundle of \Baptist Voice magazines\. They are of great help and encouragement especially when our church building was burnt down by fire last March 12. We lost then the entire church equipment and property, the parsonage, and the church/pastor’s library of more than 1,000 books used in the Bible school. We would appreciate your diligent prayers as we rebuild. i heard you preached maybe 5 years ago at Ed Laurena’ church then.

Thanks again for strengthening us. Amen!

  13. Hello Pastor Chappell,

I just finished listening to a Spiritual Leadership Lesson of yours on the subject of Developing a Weekly Schedule. I want to say that I admire your schedule and your discipline in following it. I, as well, am a man of schedule and discipline; however, I am considering the ministry of Church Planting and I am curious. In the early days of LBC, what differences in your schedule then and now would you highlight in an effort to give some good advice to someone in an earlier stage in their ministry (i.e. smaller Church/Church Plant)? Thanks and I realize you are very busy so if you never get to this I totally understand. Thank you for your example. You are in my families’ prayers.

    Respectfully In Christ,

  14. Dear Pastor Paul,

Greetings in Christ’s Most precious name!

First and foremost I’am Rev. Alexander M. Ocampo the pastor of Zion Hill Bible Baptist Church Inc. Cuenca, Batangas Philippines. I started this church 1994 when I was a graduating student of Baptist Heritage Bible College in San Pedro Laguna under Dr. Ed Laurena. As of now the church is growing and continuing by the grace of God. I have the desire to grow and to be more effective in the ministry.

In line with this letter I would like to inform you that I’m interested to attend your Spiritual Leadership Conference on July 12 – 15, 2009. If God will allow me, I would like also to avail your dormitory accomodations.

Dare to be different for Christ’s sake!

  15. Thank you so much for preaching that message last night on longsuffering. It seems as if my husband and I have to be reminded weekly of these things. And as sure as you stood up and preached about longsuffering, you probably already have had many chances to put it into use today! We are praying for you. Thank you for letting God use you to bring many, many hearts back to the foot of the cross.

  16. Dr. Chappell,

I had the blessing, along with my pastor, Paul Perkins, and our Christian school principal, William Brooks, of attending the Spiritual Leadership Conference last week. It was one of the very best conferences I’ve ever been a part of. We are already implementing some of the things we saw and learned here at our home church. May God continue to bless your ministry for His Glory.

    In Christ,

  19. Just wanted to say thanks for the daily devotionals via email. Today’s really was right on target. My husband recently lost his job so we are going through that and all that involves. We are blessed by God on a daily basis and are looking forward to the plans He has for us. Our daughter, Lauren, is a freshman at WCBC. She is learning so much and growing in the Lord.
    Thanks again.

  20. Dear Pastor Chappell,

Thanks for the recent Thanksgiving newsletter. All the letters, postings, the Baptist Voice have been wonderful. My husband and I really appreciate all that you and the leaders of LBC do. The last letter with the See’s candies was a nice treat for both me and my kids. Our prayers are with you and your family. We are glad that the recent trials regarding your wife and your son are going well now.

  26. Dear Pastor Chappell,

I am a 17-year-old teenage girl and recently attended the Spiritual Leadership Conference on Monday. I can say that I was just refreshed on that one day I attended. Through your preaching, I realized that I cannot do anything without the anointing of God’s Spirit. As a teenager preparing for Bible College in 2011, I know that I need more than over to seek God for His will. Anyways, thank you for your great leadership and fire for God.

  27. Dr. Chappell, Your WCBC singing group 4 by Grace just visited our Church in Rochester, MN – Midwest Bible Baptist Church. Brother Keely’s message and their harmonies were both a real blessing. I visited their book table and purchased “The Spiritual Leader.” I have read half so far, and it is already an invaluable tool to me, with preparing to start an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in WI. I also have two other books of yours which have been very helpful. Thank you so much “James 1:17”

  28. Dr. Chappell,
I just want to tell you how much I enjoy Daily In the Word devotions sent to me each day. There never seems to be one that I don’t need but I especially appreciate those I know that are sent by the Lord for a special need on a particular day. He has taught my husband and I so much through these with His encouragement and comfort. Thank you for your willingness to be used of the Lord in this way and using the gift the Lord has given you to touch our hearts through your ministry. We thank Him for His perfect timing in our life with these devotions.
May the Lord continue to bless you, your family and ministry.

Please thank Brother Williams. I had 6 kids and he always picked me up on the bus I appreciate everything he did for my family! God Bless!
