On a plaque near this site reads the following inscription: “Opposite this point near the cross in the middle of Broad Street, Hugh Latimer, one time Bishop of Worcester, Nicholas Ridley, Bishop of London, and Thomas Cranmer, Arch Bishop of Canterbury, were burnt for their faith in 1555 & 1556.”
When a Preacher is Downcast
By C.H. Spurgeon
"Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint."
2 Samuel 21:15
"For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears. Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus."
2 Corinthians 7:5, 6

Well, we are certainly experiencing a change of season as we enter the month of December! The period of year we are now entering is marked by a busier schedule, an intensity of celebration, and hopefully a greater focus on the miraculous incarnation of Jesus Christ. This is a wonderful season and a time where our worship of Christ is especially meaningful.
"This Must be the Place" was written by Cary Schmidt for the dedication service of the new auditorium of Lancaster Baptist Church. We hope these words will be an encouragement to you.
Dr. Rick Martin has served on the mission field for twenty-nine years. He is the founder and pastor of Iloilo Baptist Church in Iloilo City, located on the Island of Panai in the Philippines.
I once read an article from a national polling organization that said our nation faces a crisis that is neither political nor economical, but moral and spiritual. It’s true. We live in a culture today filled with crime, terrorism, disease, lust, and intolerance for Christians. We have highly publicized scandals that have left America in a crisis of trust—a crisis of confidence. People are asking, “Who can I trust?” The lack of authenticity is often seen in the break down of the American family. Children grow up wondering if they can place confidence in a parent who has been untrustworthy.
Perhaps the most difficult thing to do in life is to thank God for the trials. Sometimes in life it is hard to balance what we know with how we feel. How do we bridge the gap between heartache and hope? I believe the answer is faith. The only way to resolve what I know from the Scriptures with what I feel in my heart is to put my faith in the Word of God. The Bible says in Romans 10:17,
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Faith is getting a word from God and believing it.
