Sheriff's Academy Graduation
A few days ago, I had the privilege of attending the graduation ceremony for the Antelope Valley Sherriff's Academy. It was a thrill to see dozens of young men finish the rigorous course requirements and become official deputy sheriff's for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. I was especially proud of two young men who are members of Lancaster Baptist Church. Justin Ruppert and Robert May were among the 31 graduates that day. They each have exemplified a tremendous testimony for the Lord during their training, and they have a desire to glorify Him through their careers.
Abercrombie & Fitch Display Obscene Imagery
On March 27, 2008, the New York Post reported that Abercrombie & Fitch is releasing a new catalog by Bruce Weber full of even sexier shots of scantily clad teen models-but this time, it will be sold only in London and priced at close to $200, "like an art book," said an insider.A Warning to Believers
On January 1st, Oprah Winfrey began promoting a year-long course entitled, "The New Age Christ." Her text for the course is a book entitled A Course in Miracles. Below are a few quotations taken from this book:
"There is no sin."
"A slain Christ has no meaning."
"The journey to the cross should be the last useless journey."
"Do not make the pathetic error of clinging to the old rugged cross."
"The name of Jesus Christ as such is but a symbol. It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray."
California Fire
On the day after Thanksgiving, I noticed unusual winds from the east sweeping across the Antelope Valley. When the wind comes from that direction, we know it to be the “Santa Ana Winds.” These winds not only flow through our valley, but they rip throughout Southern California, often at thirty or forty miles per hour.
27 Days!
Spiritual Leadership Conference is only 27 days away! Countless hours of prayer and preparation have already gone into this highly anticipated conference. We are counting down the days—literally! On the second floor of our office building, we have mounted a countdown to the wall. Our staff has diligently worked to coordinate schedules, transportation, meals, and thousands of other details related to the conference.
Dr. Jerry Falwell
Over the last few years we have seen the passing of a few warriors for the faith of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While I personally could not condone some of the associations with whom Dr. Falwell “yoked himself” over the last several years, I must be honest to say that I will greatly miss his influence in our country as a leader for right.
Dr. Falwell was a frequent speaker at the church where I grew up in San Jose, California. On more than one occasion he was a guest in our home. As a young boy, I recall having meals with him and some of his associates from Lynchburg.
